Linear Abraser (Abrader) – Taber

Engineered for Versatile Abrasion Testing

The TABER® Linear Abraser (Abrader) – Model 5770 has been engineered to test either contoured or flat surfaces, making it ideal to evaluate finished products of all sizes. To expand the versatility of this instrument, the Linear Abraser can be configured with optional test attachments to perform different types of abrasion tests and can be used for both wet and dry testing.

Advanced Test System Design

The Taber Linear Abraser incorporates a horizontal arm that reciprocates in a linear motion. Attached to the end of the arm is a precision bearing spline shaft that creates a ‘free-floating’ test system and permits vertical movement. The test attachments are affixed to the bottom of the spline shaft and a weight support is mounted to the top. As the horizontal arm strokes back and forth, the test system raises or lowers vertically as the test attachment follows the contours of the specimen.

User-Friendly Interface and Controls

The model 5770 introduces a series of innovative enhancements designed to optimize the user experience. Featuring an intuitive, operator-friendly LCD touchscreen, the interface offers easy navigation and customizable options for streamlined operation. Adjustable settings enable the user to select the speed (from 2 to 75 cycles per minute with 8 preset speeds), stroke length (eleven stroke lengths ranging from 0.2 inch to 4.0 inch) and test load.

Flexible Load Configuration

The base load of the “free-floating” test system is 350 grams and consists of the test attachment, spline shaft, and weight support. Three 250g weight discs are supplied with the instrument and optional weight discs ranging from 10 to 250 grams can be added to the weight support to increase the test load to approximately 2100 grams. Optional accessories can also be used to decrease the load to as low as 60 grams.

FAQ - Linear Abraser (Abrader) – Taber

What is the Linear Abraser Model 5770 used for?

The Linear Abraser Model 5770 is designed to test either contoured or flat surfaces, making it ideal for evaluating finished products of all sizes. It can perform different types of abrasion tests and is suitable for both wet and dry testing applications.

How does the Linear Abraser's test system work?

The instrument incorporates a horizontal arm that reciprocates in a linear motion with a precision bearing spline shaft that creates a 'free-floating' test system. This allows vertical movement so the test attachment follows the contours of the specimen as the arm strokes back and forth.

What are the speed and stroke length options?

The Model 5770 offers adjustable speed settings from 2 to 75 cycles per minute with 8 preset speeds. It provides eleven stroke length options ranging from 0.2 inch to 4.0 inch, allowing for versatile testing configurations.

What is the load range of the Linear Abraser?

The base load is 350 grams, which can be increased to approximately 2100 grams using additional weight discs. With optional accessories like aluminum spline shaft and plastic collet kit, the minimum load can be reduced to as low as 60 grams.

Does the Linear Abraser have user-friendly controls?

Yes, the Model 5770 features an intuitive, operator-friendly LCD touchscreen interface that offers easy navigation and customizable options for streamlined operation. The interface allows users to easily adjust speed, stroke length, and test load settings.

How many test cycles can the Linear Abraser perform?

The Linear Abraser is programmable to a maximum of 50,000 cycles. However, caution must be used as the abradant may wear prior to the end of the test, depending on the test conditions and materials being evaluated.
